Anaesthesia and sedation
Our operations are performed under regional and local anaesthesia and sedation. You will be given medication prior to surgery that will make you relaxed and more receptive to the sedation that is administered intravenously during the course of the operation. Such is the effectiveness of that sedation and the disassociative drug given with it while the local anaesthetic is injected, you will not feel any pain or be aware of what is happening. Recovery from these drugs is much quicker than from general anaesthesia and there are rarely any unpleasant side effects. Epidural anaesthesia is also used in some abdominal and lower limb operations. Adequate pain medication is administered during and after your operation.
