It was noted that the first time that this procedure of Radioactive Seed Implantation (known as Brachytherapy) was done in VI was on January 6, 2017, at the Bougainvillea Clinic, when a team of doctors and supportive personnel led by Dr Dwayne Thwaites, successfully carried out the procedure on three patients, who continue to do well.

The procedure lasts between 60-90 minutes and the patients were all discharged to go home a few hours after completion of the implantation.

According to the information released, it was Dr Thwaites, who again arranged for a team of radiation therapy specialists from 21st Century Oncology Inc, of Florida in the United States of America (USA), to travel to VI to perform the complex treatment procedure at the clinic.

The team was again led by Dr Christopher Chen MD, Radiation Oncologist, supported by a radiation physicist, a radiation therapist and administrative personnel.
